Factors Influencing Addictive Personalities
Why is it that one person becomes addicted to drugs or alcohol whilst another doesn’t? That is a question scientists have been asking in order to augment the effectiveness of programs such as inpatient drug rehab in California. Recent studies regarding addictive personalities have revealed evidence indicating genetic and physiological components directly impact whether or not a person will be more vulnerable to developing an addiction. What are those components?
Evolution
Some experts feel that the potential for addiction is hardwired into our brains as a survival mechanism and hence, is an evolutionary advantage. For example, animals associate pleasure with eating particular foods and therefore seek out those foods. This instinct helps animals to survive in the wild. However, whilst in the animal kingdom those foods serve as nourishment, the same instinct in humans can often lead to overindulging in high-caloric foods.
Genetics
A recent study found that children of parents suffering from alcohol or drug addiction are eight times more likely to have an addictive personality and develop an addiction themselves. However, that does not necessarily mean those children are destined to become addicts. A person’s level of coping skills plays an extremely important role in whether or not an addiction will develop. Even with a genetic predisposition toward an addictive personality, a person with strong, healthy coping skills can avoid turning to substance abuse in times of stress or emotional upheaval. Conversely, just as strong coping skills can help prevent addiction, poor coping skills can help trigger it. Traits such as impulsiveness and feelings of low self-esteem and self-worth also contribute to addiction.
Physiology
Some scientists believe brain chemicals may play a part in addictive personalities. A person’s sense of self-worth and feeling of well-being are controlled by the neurotransmitter serotonin while levels of the hormone and neurotransmitter norepinephrine effect depression. Because of this, addiction tendencies have been linked to serotonin and norepinephrine levels.
Another way in which the brain factors into addiction and addictive personalities is in the area of self-control. Physiologically, self-control can be observed at the brain level. Imaging studies have revealed activity in specific parts of the brain relating to self-control. Distinct differences exist between the brain activity of people with healthy levels of self-control and the brain activity of people with poor self-control. It is thought that these differences explain in part why some people have more difficulty with self-control than others.
Tips For Dealing With The Pain Of Hemorrhoids
Have you ever had the agonizing pain of hemorrhoids?
You will be amazed by these wonderful, natural, easy to use tips, that can completely remove hemorrhoid pain.
These hemorrhoid pain relief tips, have been passed down the generations by word of mouth. It was originally given as advice from an osteopath, who incorporated natural ideas in his practice.
TIP 1.
Peel a medium size potato, and cut it into pieces the size of your little finger.
Trim the sides smooth so there are no sharp edges, and carve both ends to smooth rounded points.
Place all these potato ‘peccaries’, into the fridge in a container of good water that completely submerses them. This stops them going brown.
Then, after your next bowel motion, you get one chilled potato portion from the fridge, and cover it with a little fresh olive oil, or any safe lubricant, to enable you to insert it gently into your rectum. Do this slowly as you will, in the process, be repositioning the pain filled hemorrhoids to their original position. They will be held firmly against the bowel wall, until your next bowel movement.
This piece of potato will be easily evacuated, of its own accord, when your bowels open next, and you can then just replace it with a new ‘cold’ one, until your symptoms are gone.
The potato allows the swelling to subside and often the blood filled hemorrhoids lose their contents very quickly.
This can bring about instant relief, and many report a huge difference well within three days.
Medical Disclaimer: This tip is for you to use at your own discretion, and at your own risk, in the unlikely event that you are allergic to potato, and if you are in any doubt about using this, feel free to ask your Doctor first, but many have used this tip with confidence over the years, saving them on medical fees and medication costs, and healing faster.
TIP 2.
When you get up in the morning, drink at least two large glasses of top quality, health inducing water, to flush your system. This puts a good ‘rinse’ through your body, softening bowel contents, and often inducing a regular, guaranteed, morning clean out. Some health advisers suggest drinking 650 mls. in a reasonably short time, to do this.
Now, what if the water you could drink was bio photonic, restructured, energized, and had life giving properties? How much better would that be?
